Q. Who can apply for a PR Card?

Apply for a card if:

  • You did not receive your card within 180 days of immigrating as PR
  • Your card expired or about to expire
  • Your card is lost, stolen or damaged card
  • You want to change name or gender

Q. Can I be in Canada or in foreign country and apply PR Card?

NO. You must apply in Canada. If you are outside Canada and your card is expired, lost, stolen or damaged; you must apply for a travel document called PRTD to enter Canada as a PR and apply for Card when you are inside Canada.

Q. When can you apply for renewal?

If your card is expired or up to 9 months before expiry

Q. What is eligibility for renewal of card?

Must have spent at least 730 days during the last five years inside Canada, physically present

Q. What if it has not been 5 years since I became PR?

Even if less than 5 years have passed since becoming PR, you must prove that you spent 730 days in Canada

Q. How much it cost?

IRCC Fee for Renewal?  $50 plus Biometrics Fee (if IRCC does not have your valid biometrics)

Copy of Passport showing all travel stamps

Two (2) Permanent Resident Card Photograph in small envelope

Documents to prove that you were in Canada for more than 730 days

Canadian address proof

(If applicable) If you are under 18 years age; birth certificate, adoption order or guardianship proof and education documents

(If applicable) Legal documents to support name change

(If applicable) Change of Sex or Gender Identifier Form (CIT0404)

Note: you can always put additional documents beyond checklist to support your application.

Q. Where do I apply for PR Card?

Complete package for PR Card application must be mailed or couriered to IRCC. You cannot apply PR Card online or in Service Canada or any other place.
